Untitled DocumentConservation or Theory of Mind For this practical, students are required to devise an experimental test derived from the classic conservation experiments of Piaget & Donaldson or the false belief story of Wimmer and Perner (1983) and design and conduct a small scale study to investigate one of the following either, The Age of Acquisition of Conservation or A Theory of Mind, or, The effects of Variations in Presentation of the Problem e.g. mode, purpose or social context.
The face inversion effect This practical is intended for approximately 30 psychology students with access to Eprime and SPSS. Students do not need any prior knowledge of face recognition research, but some knowledge of experimental design and statistics is helpful.
The class is split into 3 groups: 10 do the familiar faces experiment, 10 do the facial expression experiment, and 10 do the face gender experiment. Upright and inverted faces are presented and student's accuracy is measured. The students own data is analysed in SPSS with a sample data set.
