eprimelogoHow to construct a visual stimulus response paradigm
One of the most common paradigm types constructed with an experiment generator is visual stimulus-response. Typically a participant is shown an image or series of images and has to respond accordingly. When they have responded a reaction time and their choice is logged for later analysis.

In the series of screencams that follow I will show you how to display an image, alter display timings, accept a response and view data.

Estimated package time 10-15mins.

Constructing a simple visual stimulus-response paradigm in E-Prime involves a number of steps.

Display an image

Step 1: How to display an image
Here I'll show you how to display an image on a basic timeline. This includes selecting an image, positioning it on the experimental timeline and altering properties governing how it is presented.

Accept responses

Step 2: Allow the image object to accept responses
Here I'll show you how to configure the image object to accept responses from the keyboard and what action to take when a response is detected.

Run the experiment

Step 3: Run the experiment
Here I'll show you how to test run your experiment to make sure that the image is displayed as intended and that responses are acted on and recorded correctly.

What data to log

Step 4: Decide what response data to log
E-Prime lets you log a multitude of data concerning stimulus displays and responses made by participants together with a host of validation measures. Here I'll show you how to select which basic data to log.

Analysing data

Step 5: Analysing data in E-Dataaid
Once you have run your experiment and collected some data you can use the E-Dataaid utility built into E-Prime to perform basic data analysis. Here I show you how to view experimental data and highlight some of the key variables.
